The Rise of King Andi: A Conversation with the Viral TikTok Star and Ali Nuhu’s Admirer

In Northern Nigeria, it has become a common trend for fans to emulate their favorite artists on various platforms. Supporters and admirers of Hausa film and music stars passionately mimic their idols, showcasing not only their love and admiration but also gaining their own fame through social media. One prominent example of this phenomenon is Abubakar Nuhu Dantani, popularly known as King Andi, a massive fan of Ali Nuhu, the celebrated Kannywood and Nollywood actor and current Managing Director of the Nigerian Film Corporation.

King Andi, known for his entertaining mimicry of Ali Nuhu, has garnered nearly two million likes on TikTok and over two hundred thousand followers, making him a social media sensation. In an exclusive interview with Kannywood Scene, Andi shares his journey, inspirations, and future aspirations.

Kannywood Scene (KS): Tell us more about yourself.

King Andi: My name is Abubakar Nuhu Dantani, but most people know me as King Andi. The name “King Andi” stems from my full name and business – Abubakar Nuhu Dantani Investment (ANDI). I’m originally from Maiduguri, Borno State, where I completed my primary and secondary education. Later, I moved to Kano for higher education. It was during this time that I began exploring social media, especially TikTok, to create content.

KS: You’re known for imitating Ali Nuhu. Have you ever met him, especially now that you’re famous for mimicking him?

King Andi: Yes, I’ve met him! Initially, there were mixed feelings before I met him. Many people, especially within the Kannywood film industry, warned me against it. They said things like, “Ali Nuhu is not approachable,” or “he might sue you for identity theft or copyright infringement.” At one point, I even stopped creating content out of fear.

But then I decided to take the leap. I learned he would be at a shooting location for Gidan Sarauta, and I took the bull by the horns. What happened next shocked me! When he saw me, he started singing one of the songs I had mimicked in my videos. Everyone’s attention turned to me, and for a moment, I felt like a celebrity! It was an unforgettable experience.

KS: What song was it that he sang?

King Andi: It was So Da Hanzari—a duet by Ali Nuhu, Kubra Dakho, and another actress. That particular video went viral, and Ali Nuhu had even commented on it. When I arrived at the Gidan Sarauta set, and he recognized me by singing that song, it felt surreal. We had a deep conversation afterward, during which he gave me valuable advice. He told me to respect and value people, stay focused, and use my fame wisely without letting it derail my life.

KS: Do you aspire to be an actor?

King Andi: Absolutely! Becoming an actor has always been my dream, and this content creation journey is a step closer to achieving it. Alhamdulillah, I’ve already impressed some prominent figures in the industry, including Ali Nuhu himself. I’m also in contact with renowned producers like Abubakar Bashir Maishadda and celebrated director Kamal S. Alkali. The groundwork has been laid; I’m just waiting for the right opportunity to showcase my talent.

King Andi’s story is a testament to how passion, creativity, and persistence can open doors to unexpected opportunities. From his viral TikTok content to his growing connections in Kannywood, King Andi is well on his way to turning his dreams into reality. With his charm and dedication, it won’t be long before he makes his debut on the big screen.
